IMG_0040On Tuesday, May 26, Druthers Brewing Co. opened the doors to its brand new 18,000 sq. ft. brewery and restaurant at 1053 Broadway in Albany’s warehouse district. This is the second local brewery, bar and restaurant installment for the brand which also has its first established location in Saratoga Springs which opened in 2012. In addition, the company operates the restaurant on site at McGregor’s Links County Club.

“We spent more than a year looking for the right location and realized that Albany is where we wanted to invest,” said Chris Martell, CEO of Druthers Brewing Co. “Capitalize Albany Corporation worked very hard to help us find the perfect space. Being in Albany’s warehouse district and so close to downtown provides a huge opportunity for us to expand our market reach. It’s a great location that bridges the gap for many guests who end up traveling far to visit us in Saratoga. Mayor Sheehan and the City of Albany have been very welcoming and I think this site will serve as a major catalyst for our future growth.”

With the Albany location now up and running Druthers currently employs 240 people. An important expansion for the company, the new brewery and restaurant created 68 new jobs. This facility measures more than three times the size of its Saratoga Springs brewery of 4,200 sq. ft. The Albany site is divided between a 7,000 sq. ft. bar and restaurant and an 11,000 sq. ft. brewery operating on a 30 barrel brewing system. This 30 barrel system gives Druthers the capability of brewing up to 10,000 kegs annually, more than doubling its Saratoga site’s brewing capacity. A variety of craft beers are brewed on site, utilized in Druthers’ restaurant locations and also sold off site through contracted distributors.

“Albany’s warehouse district presents unique opportunities for blending restaurants, retail and residential development with the area’s strong industrial and manufacturing roots,” said Sarah Reginelli, President of Capitalize Albany Corporation. “Impact Downtown Albany, the market-driven, action-oriented strategic plan developed last year, is now being implemented to help position downtown, its adjacent warehouse district and waterfront as the ideal urban center. Our strategy partners identified the warehouse district as a priority, and our goal is to help existing businesses grow and continue to thrive while attracting new complementary businesses and projects to this bustling district adjacent to downtown. We knew Druthers would fit perfectly into this vision.”
