Wellington Row Full-Service Salon and Spa Opens Enhancing Downtown Experience

February 7, 2017

Enhancing the downtown Albany experience, Spa Wellington celebrated its grand opening—now less than a month out from the opening of the adjacent Albany Capital Center. Located at 140 State Street and supported by Impact Downtown Albany implementation, Spa Wellington complements historic Wellington Row’s hospitality, retail, and dining options which have developed in recent years. The spa and its many services add an exciting amenity for downtown visitors and residents to enjoy.

By becoming Wellington Row’s newest tenant, the spa completes the retail component of the development’s mixed-use occupancy goals. Wellington Row encompasses 352,000 square feet, and its revitalization involved the adaptive reuse of six vacant buildings, the construction of a 300 space parking garage and a climate controlled pedestrian walkway connecting visitors to the soon to be completed Albany Capital Center and other area attractions. The redeveloped properties now serve to provide mixed-use retail, residential, commercial office space opportunities and a 203 room Renaissance Hotel in the heart of New York’s Capital City.

The Renaissance Albany opened its doors in 2015 marking a major milestone for Columbia Development’s revitalization of Wellington Row. Over several years the private sector, New York State and local government worked diligently together to revitalize the DeWitt Clinton as a hotel operation. Capitalize Albany Corporation was able to assist in attaining $2.5 million in grant funding through Empire State Development’s Restore New York program in addition to tax abatements and other financial resources Wellington Row redevelopment qualified for.
