Amplify Albany | Classics of Science Fiction Film Festival & Lecture Series at The Linda

October 30, 2018

November 1 – 4, the Writing and Critical Inquiry Program (WCI) at the University at Albany, in collaboration with The Linda, WAMC’s Performing Arts Studio, will host “Classics of Science Fiction,” the WCI Film Festival and Lecture Series’ third annual weekend-long educational and creative celebration. In Oct. 2016 and 2017 programming each year attracted hundreds of festival-goers to the annual zombie themed event hosted by UAlbany at the Madison Theater – ‘The Zombies Are Coming! Film Festival.’ Due to its popularity, the Amplify Albany program is supporting the festival’s return with expanded programming in a new commercial district.

This year’s selection of international science fiction films will explore topics beyond zombies and be screened at The Linda, 339 Central Ave., Albany. The partnership with the Linda puts event goers at the heart of Central Avenue, encouraging foot traffic for the business district. In addition to the films, lectures and post-screening discussions, over the course of the weekend the event will also feature live music by local musicians, a community art gallery show with pieces submitted by local universities, high schools, and middle schools; a masquerade ball to benefit a local charity/organization, goods from local vendors and more.
