Steuben St. Market

On Thursday Capitalize Albany Corporation joined Steuben Street Market co-owner Chris Pratt, City of Albany Mayor Kathy Sheehan, Albany County Executive Daniel P. McCoy, director of the New York State Office of Homes and Community Renewal’s Main Street Grant program Crystal Loffler, president and COO of Omni Development David Swawite, Assemblymember John McDonald and Downtown Albany BID executive director Georgette Steffens for the grand opening and ribbon cutting celebration of the Steuben Street Market in downtown Albany.

With approximately 600 items on shelves, customers are seeing bread, fresh and frozen meats, dairy products, sandwiches, smoothies and other food items serving downtown visitors and the growing residential population. To view photos from the grand opening celebration, click here.

The Market is located on the first floor of the Steuben Place Apartments at 58 North Pearl Street, a $4.9 million mixed-use conversion project made possible by assistance from Capitalize Albany Corporation, the City of Albany Industrial Development Agency and New York State. Omni Development turned the vacant Class C office building into 29 studio, one bedroom and two bedroom units with ground-level retail space. As part of Governor Cuomo’s Regional Economic Development Council Initiative, the project received a grant from New York State Homes and Community Renewal’s (HCR) New York Main Street program which was granted to Capitalize Albany to help renovate the commercial space.
