Renaissance Albany Welcomed To Downtown
October 21, 2015
On October 21 a ribbon cutting ceremony was held and the Renaissance Albany hotel officially opened its doors. Columbia Development’s revitalization of Wellington Row continues to take shape. The hotel formerly known as the DeWitt Clinton was built in 1927 and was named after the former Governor of New York State. Hotel operations ceased in 1975 and over the last several years the private sector, New York State and local government worked diligently together to revitalize the DeWitt Clinton as a hotel operation at 144 State Street along downtown’s Wellington Row.
Capitalize Albany Corporation was able to assist in attaining $2.5 million in grant funding through Empire State Development’s Restore New York program in addition to tax abatements and other financial resources Wellington Row redevelopment qualified for. The 180,000 square foot Renaissance Albany by Marriott retains many of the building’s original aspects such as its breathtaking lobby. Located across from the State Capitol and centrally in downtown Albany, the Renaissance offers intimate meeting space for private events, 204 rooms, a full-service restaurant open to the public, lounge and coffee shop.
