In the past five years more than 380 new apartment units have come online in Albany’s downtown and warehouse district alone as implementation of the Impact Downtown Albany strategic plan continues. There are currently nearly 400 more residential units in the pipeline for downtown and in the past year more than 250 new units have come online in Albany’s Park South neighborhood.
On Tuesday, Sept. 26 a new high-grade self-storage facility at 40 North Russell Road officially opened for business. ValueSpace’s development was led by the Rosenblum Companies, the facility will serve as a critical amenity to current and incoming Albany residents. The facility will also provide multiple community benefits including the availability of some free storage through a partnership with a local non-profit organization that provides assistance to underserved populations in the community. In addition, the nearby service road which connects to Westgate Plaza has been resurfaced and will be maintained.
A project made possible with assistance from the City of Albany Industrial Development Agency, the $6.3 million, 90,000 sq. ft. high-grade three-story temperature controlled self-storage facility contains 650 storage units, a rental office and retail space for the sale of moving and packing supplies. The site is fenced and gated to control access in addition to an IP security camera system.
