Seven New Apartments To Soon Come Online Above Long Standing Coulson’s

With Coulson’s News and Deli on its first floor, the renovation of 420 Broadway is transforming the building’s underutilized upper floors into seven one-bedroom market-rate apartments planned to come online this spring. 

The project is made possible in part by a grant from New York State Homes and Community Renewal’s (HCR) New York Main Street program and with support from the City of Albany Industrial Development Agency. The $1.3 million investment made by Hudson Partners Development is renewing the property while retaining the building’s historic integrity. Its upper floors hold 19th century graffiti along its walls still displayed to recognize the building’s long history. The apartments add to the more than 850 total units that are completed or currently under construction in downtown. More than 270 additional units are also in the pipeline. With support from a City of Albany Small Business Facade Improvement Program grant improvements to the building’s storefront were made. A spring event is planned to recognize the building’s transformation.
