Parking Space at 522-524 Broadway Transformed on PARK(ing) Day 2015
September 18, 2015
As part of the nationally recognized PARK(ing) Day, the team at Capitalize Albany set up a PARK N Play space in support of downtown Albany pop up programming. This space was set up to educate the public about the projects and investments behind the building momentum seen in Albany through fun and play. It was a great opportunity for residents to speak and meet with their City’s economic development organization and learn more about the projects strengthening our communities. Capitalize Albany temporarily transformed a parking space at 522-524 Broadway into a green space. Everyday tabletop and board games were transformed into a fun way to learn more about the City of Albany, recent development projects, Albany’s history and what’s coming next.
PARK(ing) Day is an annual global event where organizations, citizens and artists collaborate to temporarily transform metered parking spaces into “PARK(ing)” spaces: temporary public places.
A recent project at 522-524 Broadway involved the acquisition and conversion of a four story, 18,000 square foot vacant commercial space into a mixed-use building. The renovated building has commercial office space on the first floor that is now occupied with 14 apartments on the upper floors. The project received NYS Main Street funds administered by Capitalize Albany Corporation. The Corporation also provided subordinate financing. The City of Albany IDA provided sales tax exemption and property tax abatement.
