Nipper To Watch Over Proposed $70 Million Mixed-Use Plan For Warehouse District
May 9, 2016
The conversion of the Nipper building (991 Broadway) in Albany’s warehouse district to apartments would be phase one of a four-phase, $70 million development project to include more than 150 additional apartments in a set of newly constructed buildings with retail space and multiple levels of indoor parking.
As part of the $15 million phase one, Nipper would sit atop 65-75 residential units, the first floor would include more than 7,000 sq. ft. of retail and office space with approximately 180 parking spaces.
Senator Charles Schumer visited Albany in April, he is urging the National Park Service and the state Historic Preservation Office to add the property to the National Register of Historic Places. This designation would make federal historic tax credits available, assisting redevelopment of the building for residential and commercial use.
