Albany Capital Center to Open Ahead of Schedule for MAAC Tournament

The Albany Capital Center announced it will have a soft opening March 2 to coincide with the MAAC basketball tournament at the Times Union Center, ahead of its March 22 opening when the Capital Center hosts its first trade group. An event that attracts thousands of fans, NCAA and Division 1 college basketball officials will also get a first look at the convention center which will play a key role in conjunction with the Times Union Center for area sporting events.
Exterior progress has been visible daily since the Center’s July topping off ceremony, marking the completion of the Center’s steel construction phase. Already, 32 events are booked for 2017. The Albany Capital Center is expected to bring 150,000 people annually to Albany and the Region when the operations are stabilized, with an estimated economic impact of $36 million.
